This physical conditioning method is based on a set of principles and exercises targeting the muscle chains, mainly through floor work. The exercises are varied and progressive, and aim to activate weak muscles and relax tense ones, so as to balance the muscles and relieve muscular tension, while developing the body-mind relationship.

Pilates is also about becoming aware of your own body, how it works, and gradually taking control of it. The work done leads to improved strength, flexibility, coordination and posture, and is an ideal response to back pain, pre- and post-natal challenges, loss of muscle tone and stress-related tension.
